DIY- Color Blocked Denim Vest!

We have this obsession right now with superheroes (POW, KABOOM!), surfers and pastel colors. So we created these denim bad boyz to fill our void! We need more crafty pieces in our wardrobe stat! We bought oversized vintage denim vests and cut off the arms and washed them, so that they would fray. Try Value Village or Salvation army for these. And definitely check the Men's section for the good ones! Then we pulled out all of our acrylic paints and went to town. We found that you need one small brush for edge painting and one large brush for the large sections. A good tip when painting with neon paints: Make sure you paint the base white and then add the neon color on after when the white paint dries for best results. Otherwise the neon absorbs and looks faded and streaky.
We also added our favorite looks and perfect accessories to go with two vests we made.
The first vest pic: The Pastel pink outfit from Givenchy's Spring 2012 Collection, Balenciaga hiking heel (from previous season) and the 3.1 Phillip Lim Breakup Clutch from his Pre- Fall 2012 Collection
The second vest pic: The painted colorful Balenciaga Pre- Fall 2012 look, the Balenciaga color blocked bag (from previous season) and Lego

Have fun making these vests! And let us know how they turn out :) And check out our Instagram @Beckermanblog to see us wearing it!

AMAZING! and so creative, this is very inspiring. These looks great, I think I'm gonna have to try this out. Wonder how acrylic paint will wash? Always loved those lego shoes, that Balenciaga collection is one of my all time fav collections. X
