The first stop was with one of our good friends, Ania from Triarchy Denim at the Soho House Toronto. Ania and her brothers are creating innovative denim that uses sustainable fabrics and are a socially responsible clothing brand that uses minimal water to make jeans. She made our jaws drop when she told us that 46,000 glasses of water are used to make 1 pair of jeans. We could see how sustainable clothes can be just as high fashion and high quality as other lines and that they are creating environmental awareness and bringing a real cool vibe factor to the fashion iIndustry. We are proud that they are Canadian and leading the way for so many brands in the future of production and trend. Lexus is also committed to the environment and are in fact, the leader in hybrid technology among luxury automotive manufacturers.
Our second stop was at the Cheese Boutique (45 Ripley Avenue) where we met with Cheese Master Afrim Pristine whose family opened the famous store in 1970 and he is obsessed with Batman! He fed us the most delicious lunch of prepared foods, brought us on a tour of his cheese cave and explained to us how he invests in cheeses instead of real estate. His passion and love for his store was a super inspiring experience and we will definitely be going back. He has one of the largest pieces of cheese in the world hanging in his cheese cave that he let us taste, which was really cool. Afrim even has cheese aging in his cheese cave for Ben Affleck (aka Batman) for the next time he is filming in Toronto.
The third stop was to our friend's studio, iconic celebratory photographer George Pimentel who is one of the most talented photographers we know. George's studio used to be his father's studio and he still has the original prop cabinet filled with all of the toys and religious relics that remind him of his family history. He is always travelling to the hottest parties all of the world including Cannes, the MET Gala, but he still enjoys taking photos of people in his neighbourhood. George is inspired by the less- is- more approach with getting the shot in one shot. He likes to meet celebrities and photograph them in less than 30 seconds while capturing their true essence. George and Lexus have both been in the Canadian market for over 25 years mastering the craft in their field. We had the honour of being photographed in his studio and he always puts a big smile on my face!
Our fourth stop was a drive to The Distillery District where the new Spirit of York Distillery Co. (12 Trinity Street, Toronto) just opened. We met with master Simon Ho who is the master of distilling vodka and gin and a notable Toronto mixologist. He is a visionary behind the brand's Bitters Library where he made us delicious concoctions including a strawberry pepper one for me that mixes amazing with tequila. We taste tested his 97% proof vodka and gins and he is a true visionary in his field!
We were then driven to our last stop of the day...to the new Toronto hot spot, Cafe CanCan (88 Harbord Street, Toronto) that just opened by famous chef Victor Barry. We were surrounded by gorgeous flamingo and floral wallpaper, ate the most delicious meal of white asparagus and gnocchi while sipping on pink rose. Victor is all about hospitality, Lexus’ core value of "omotenashi," which is the Japanese art of providing exceptional hospitality but even more then that – it’s as though we were guests in our own home. This is something that Lexus believes strongly in - , an experience like no other. We will definitely be back for that yummy soul food and we can't wait to drive our #LexusIS for an entire week in Toronto!
